Barney has been based at the Reading University Centre for Dairy Research since 1987. He is the keeper of seven gelded llamas which are participating in a research
programme with the School of Pharmacy.
Llamas have unique antibodies which are currently used in research for brain diseases such as alzheimers and dementia. Barney is hoping shortly to put together an item regarding the research for the members magazine Llamalink.
The llamas share their field currently with a flock of sheep and are quite happy to follow them into the stables. Barney says he has found the llamas to be an absolute delight and very much enjoys working with them.
